Legacy
Privacy Policy
Effective July 20, 2026.
A life story is one of the most personal things a person can record. We treat it that way. This policy explains exactly what Legacy stores, who touches it, and the choices you keep — in plain language, with no surprises buried in the fine print.
What we store
To keep your story and share it with your family, Legacy stores only what it needs:
- Audio recordings and video you record in the app.
- Photographs and any written text memories you add.
- Transcripts, generated automatically from your audio so the story can be read as well as heard.
- The recorder’s display name, as it appears on the family page.
- The names and email addresses of family members you add, used only to send the invitations you ask us to send.
- The buyer and keeper email addresses attached to a Legacy Pass.
Private by default
Every story page is unlisted. It lives at an unguessable web address, carries a noindex instruction so search engines leave it alone, and can be locked behind a family code so that only the people you share it with can open it. We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we run no advertising of any kind. There is nothing to sell here — only a family’s story to keep.
Who processes your data
A few trusted companies process data on our behalf so the service can run. Each does one job, and no others handle your story:
- Supabase — our database and file storage, where your recordings, photos, transcripts, and text are securely kept.
- Brevo — sends the transactional email we send on your behalf: family invitations and purchase receipts.
- OpenAI — its Whisper model is used solely to transcribe your audio into text. It is used for nothing else.
There are no other third parties. If that ever changes, we will update this list before it does.
No analytics, no tracking
Legacy runs no analytics and no tracking, and it sets no advertising or measurement cookies. The only cookies we use are functional ones — the kind needed to unlock a locked page or to grant a keeper access. Nothing follows you around.
The keeper’s email
A keeper’s email address is used only for keeper functions — confirming who they are so they can reach the family page and download the archive if needed. It is never shown publicly anywhere on the family page.
Children
Legacy is made for adults recording their life stories. It is not directed to children, and you must be 13 or older to use it.
Deleting your story
You are in control of your story, including the choice to erase it. To request full deletion of a story and all of its media, email us at hello@legacyrecording.app. We honor deletion requests promptly and remove the recordings, photos, transcripts, and text from our storage.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will post the new version here with a fresh effective date. Meaningful changes will always be visible on this page, not tucked away.
