Terms of Service

Legacy helps a person record their life story — a guided conversation, answered in their own voice — and keeps it as a private family page and a printed book. These terms explain how that works and, more importantly, what belongs to you. We have tried to write them the way we built the app: plainly, and with your family in mind.

What Legacy is

Legacy guides you through your story one question at a time. You record audio or video, add photos and written memories, and Legacy gathers it into a private web page your family can visit and a keepsake book you can hold. That is the whole of it — a place to preserve a life for the people who love it.

You own your recordings

Everything you create in Legacy is yours. The person recording, and their family, own all of the audio, video, photographs, transcripts, and written text. Legacy claims no ownership of any of it. We store your recordings and present them on your behalf — that is the extent of our role. We do not sell your story, license it, or use it to train anything.

Download anytime — you are never locked in

At any moment you can export a complete, self-contained archive of your story from the app: the audio, the video, the photos, the transcripts, a playable page you can open on any computer, and the book as a PDF. It is yours to keep, back up, and pass on. If you ever decide to leave Legacy, your story leaves with you — whole and intact. We consider this a promise, not a feature.

The Legacy Pass

Recording is free, always. You can answer every question and build your entire story without ever paying us a cent.

The Legacy Pass is a one-time purchase of $99 that unlocks the shared family page, the printed book, email invitations for family members, and the downloadable archive. The first year of cloud storage is included in that price. After the first year, storage renews at $9.99 a year to keep your page online and your media safely stored. Prices are in U.S. dollars, and purchases are made through the App Store under its terms.

Cancelling storage

You can cancel the yearly storage renewal at any time through your App Store subscription settings. Cancelling does not take anything away from you: your archive stays downloadable, and everything you have already exported remains yours to keep forever. Storage renewal simply keeps the online version of your page and its media hosted with us.

The keeper

A Pass buyer may nominate a keeper — a trusted person who can reach the family page and download the archive if something ever happens to the recorder or their phone. A keeper acts on behalf of the family, to safeguard the story, and not for their own benefit. Choose someone you trust with a life’s worth of memories, because that is exactly what you are handing them.

Not professional advice

Legacy preserves personal stories. Nothing recorded in the app or shown on a family page is medical, legal, or financial advice, and it should not be relied on as such. A story is a story — treasure it as one.

Service availability

We work hard to keep Legacy running and your data safe, and we take that responsibility seriously. Even so, the service is provided “as is,” without warranties, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for interruptions or loss. This is the reason we build the download archive into every account: keep your own exported copy, and treat it as the permanent record. That way your story never depends on us being here.

A closing word

We built Legacy to outlast the app itself — so that decades from now a grandchild can still hear a voice they were named after. Record freely, keep your archive close, and share it with the people it was made for.
